Loving Hut

Kirimachi Ramen in San Francisco is a new star on the city's restaurant scene, offering ramen and Asian specialties that draw rave reviews; patrons have compared their dishes to those served in Japan. The restaurant is located at 450 Broadway and serves the Financial District, North Beach and Telegraph Hill neighborhoods. The decor is low key, featuring a black and white tiled floor that is reminiscent of diners.

The pleasant wait staff delivers excellent service; they are attentive, there when you need them without hovering. If you have trouble deciding which dish to try, they will make recommendations. Diners love the kuro tonkatsu broth, and have made it one of the most popular items on the menu. Guest favorites also include the miso ramen and the delectable shoju ramen, always served with a perfect boiled egg.

Other offerings that will delight your palate include gyoza (pot stickers), gyu donbori, a succulent beef and onion stew served over rice, and shio, a clear pork soup. The broth has a deep, rich flavor without being oily. The gyu donbori has the right amount of sweetness. They serve the perfect quantity of food, with a nice balance of meat and vegetables. The food is fresh and well-prepared and the spicy dishes are not overwhelming.

Open Monday thru Saturday from 12 noon to 2:30 pm for lunch and from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm for dinner, Kirimachi Ramen has a casual ambiance. Although they do not serve liquor, you are welcome to bring your own. Available beverages include sparkling water, cola and iced green tea. This group-friendly restaurant offers fast service and features specials and a take-out menu. It is cash only and the prices are decent – you can fill up for ten dollars. Great food and prices have made Kirimachi Ramen the place in San Francisco for a tasty Asian experience.

Loving Hut
Being a vegan has not always been as easy as it is now. When I first started practicing the lifestyle, it was hard to go out to eat and find a restaurant that would fully accommodate my vegan needs. You can imagine how ecstatic I was when I moved to California to attend Stanford and came across Loving Hut. This place is amazing and somewhere I can continually rely on for a fully vegan menu and diet.

Of course you can expect to enjoy the delicious salad options that are available from Loving Hut, but they also offer many other tasty treats. I am a big fan of the hummus pockets, which offer a gluten-free tortilla. They also offer an Avocado BLT that I was apprehensive about ordering, but once I was assured that it was fake meat, I gave it a go and was quite happy that I did. I don’t usually get the BLT, but it’s nice to know it’s an option. It’s also fun to get guys that I date to try it, as they usually think they’ll hate it but end up enjoying it.

The service is great at the Palo Alto location. I have been to other Loving Huts (like on my vacation to Hawaii) and was a bit disappointed that there is little consistency with service. I suppose this is the price you pay for visiting a chain restaurant. However, I am very happy with those working at the location near Stanford and have even become friends with a few of those that work there.

The location of this Loving Hut is also great, as it’s close to the Caltrain. Whenever I am in a hurry, I can hop off at this stop and grab a meal, and then be on my way back to whatever it is I need to do.

It seems that more and more vegan options are popping up around Stanford, but Loving Hut is a reliable option that I have been going to and will continue to visit, mainly because they were one of the first options that really accommodated my vegan lifestyle.
