Housed in a quaint brick building and tucked away in the Croker-Amazon district, is the craft beer and burger bar The Dark Horse Inn. Open since November of 2011, the newcomers have a notable commitment to featuring new and local breweries. You wont find your Blue Moons or Corona here, but the constantly rotating tap will introduce you to some of the finest breweries in Northern California and beyond. The friendly and knowledgeable staff is there to help guide you in the right direction, even providing samples to help you decide.
With an easy going feel to it, the Dark Horse is a family friendly bar, even adding kids options to their menu. There are several flat screens available to view the game while munching on some fried pickles and peppers. Their dark horse burger with shoestring fries and a side of garlic cilantro sauce, will have you forgetting that your eating bar food. All dressings and desserts are house-made and their hand-cut potato chips are divine. The co-owner and cook Sean Ingram clearly knows his way around the kitchen. It is rare to find a good bar that also has good food, but Dark Horse has nailed both.
Although, off the beaten tourist path, The Dark Horse is easily accessible by BART or Muni, and has amble street parking. They offer Brunch on Sundays from 11am-3pm along with Sunday Dinner and daily specials. On Saturdays from 2pm-11pm, they have Flights and Flatbreads, which is a yummy selection of different flatbreads and four-sample flights of any tap beer.
The Dark Horse is truly a fitting name, for this bar tucked off the San Francisco food and bar “grid” is a dark horse in the best in show race. If you are looking for a place to please both the beer lover and foodie, The Dark Horse Inn is for you.
